Taking the old Larnaca – Dekeleia road, the beautiful village of Voroklini can be seen deep in the left side. On the right side you find yourself facing the beach of Voroklini. It is a village of the Larnaca district, about 8 kilometers north-east of Larnaca, its south coastal segment belonging to the geographical region of Larnaca’s plains and its north segment being an extension of the region with cretaceous limestone. The village is located at an altitude of 50 meters above sea level and at the foot of a small plateau
You can walk across a lighted pedestrians’ street upon the beach with a length of 850 meters. This was an initiative of the community in the context of its program for the beach’s development. It is also a way of blocking the access to the beach for wheeled vehicles. As you cross the asphalt paved Larnaca – Dekeleia road, which is going through reconstruction so as to be converted to a modern road with a cycling track, parking lots, and large areas covered with green, you feel an irresistible attraction as you enter into the beach of Voroklini. From the very first moment you feel the warmth of the coastal landscape. The sandy shore is more than two and a half kilometers long, its width throughout this distance reaching 30 meters in some spots. It consists of thin-grain sand with a few scattered, small, multi-colored pebbles. It is still a virgin area, quiet and peaceful but also very impressive. In places where the waters are covered by some rocks, the colors are sapphire-like and elsewhere the shallow waters took an emerald color, while in the deep the sea is dark blue.
Once you find yourself in this sandy beach the horizon tends to widen. The sea in front of you is the scene’s dominant element. If you are looking for some change you have to walk a little bit in the pedestrians’ street along the beach. If you decide to remain on this immense sandy beach, you will find yourself doing nothing other than watching the little waves and their motions that are generated by the east and north-east winds, breathing plenty of iodine, and enjoying the few sea-birds, which make their appearance in this region rather rarely. You will receive the caresses of the sea breeze in abundance. You will take pleasure in the shades of the sea’s blue and you will forget yourself in calmness and serenity.
In the south-west Voroklini is connected with the main Larnaca – Ammochostos highway and –although through dirt roads -with Pyla in the north-east, Troullous in the North, and Leivadia in the north-west.
Due to its position, the village went through rapid development in terms of housing, tourist, and also hotel units after 1981. This is also the case today. A construction frenzy is now in progress.
Many are the foreigners and also the Cypriots that dream of having a country house in the region of Voroklini.
Restaurants, tourist apartments, and a general tourist activity started appearing in this once quite place, threatening the serenity and the solitary living.
Moreover, the activation of tourism in the community itself started appearing through restaurants and reconditioning of houses, which are leased to foreigners –mostly travelers. Almost all of the services, including banks, insurance agencies, car rental bureaus, video-stores, and supermarkets have settled in the community.
Especially in the Voroklini’s beach you can fin anything from organized apartments to 4 star hotels, entertainment centers, restaurants, take-away, clubs, and a large variety of shops.
This incomparable beauty and calmness, this unrivalled harmony in light and color, which you encounter here in Voroklini between the plateau and the sea, is something exceptional.
The European Union’s institution of the “Blue Flag” (Blue Flag Beach) now honors Voroklini’s beach, which is known under the name “Giannades”. The Community Council has provided to its best for the proper and smooth operation with regards to the servicing of both the visitors and the inhabitants of the community: public restrooms that are fully equipped and a kiosk providing immediate service, which of course is checked by the authorities of the Voroklini community.
